The catalogue allows one to search by author, title, subject, keyword, or classification number. It contains records for all books from open stacks and for some items located in both closed stacks and reference collections. In this catalogue you can find all books published after 1994. For the years 1980-1994, books cannot be searched by subject. Also, recently published journals are listed. New books and periodicals records are continually added. The catalogue includes records of early imprints for the 15th and 16th centuries (only letters A and B are finished). Some departmental libraries list their own records in the main catalogue.
Periodicals subscribed through 2002
Card catalogues
Records in the card catalogues are organized according to Polish alphabetical order. For non-Latin alphabets - e.g. Cyrillic (Russian and Ukrainian) and Greek - the American method of transliterating characters has been adopted. Transliteration tables are located in the catalogue hall. On the catalogue card you can find an item's call number(s): you should make sure to write down every part of this number on the request form. Notes (e.g. Gabinet Rycin = Print Room) indicate that the book is located in the reference collection, and is available only in this location.

PLEASE NOTE: There are no Library of Congress call numbers in the card catalogues. Therefore, you can not find a book in the open stacks, but must check its location in the online catalogue.
The catalogue contains records of books published between 1801 and 1997. Books published after 1997 have their records only in the online catalogue.

Subject catalogue
This catalogue contains items received between 1918 and 1997. It does not include belles-lettres (except anthologies, legends, fables, and satires), periodicals, or items from Special Collections. In this catalogue you can discover which publications the Library owns about specific subject. The catalogue is organized in a way similar to an encyclopaedia.
Subjects are in alphabetical order. In each subject, catalogue cards are in chronological order, from the most recent to the oldest.
For example, subjects in this catalogue can be:
a subject name, e.g. KSIĄ¯KA, UNIWERSYTETY, STUDENCI
a geographical name, e.g. WARSZAWA, TATRY, WARMIA
a historical event, e.g. POWSTANIE LISTOPADOWE
In a separate series you can find personal entries. These contain publications about famous peoples, such as writers, artists, and scientists; notable families; and even about mythical characters.
NOTE: On the outside of cach tray we list only first and last subject headings.

Periodicals catalogue
This catalogue contains records of periodicals and series, received until 1997 (after 1998 they were continued online).
NOTE: The subject area is stamped directly on the catalogue card for periodicals placed in open stacks.
