Connection to the Internet with portable computers

As of October 14, 2002, we offer our patrons the possibility of connections with the Internet via portable computers. Computers may be used on designated stands in the area Philosophy. Psychology. Religion. Education. With these connections patrons may use, for example, full-text journal databases (with access to about 5,000 journals), to which the Library subscribes.

To connect to the Internet you will need:

1. portable computer with Windows 9x
2. network adapter card Ethernet 10/100
3. properly configured Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Internet Protocol

Patrons using Internet in the Warsaw University Library are obliged to follow, to some degree, "Regulation No. 13 from the Director of the Warsaw University Library, dated April 8, 2002, concerning computer use at the Warsaw University Library".

Users are not allowed:

• Activities causing devastation of, or damage to, the computer network
• Changes to network configuration, attempts to break system security, or interference with stored data
• Loading and viewing the following types of web pages: pornography, propagation of violence, offensive materials, or those forbidden by law
• Conduct of commercial business
• Copying materials available on the Internet but subject to copyright law
• Sending of serial correspondence and extensive attachments, or any other activities disturbing the functioning of the local network
